WAS VON DER MAUER ÜBRIG BLIEB (Cornelia Klauß, East Germany 1989/90) is a walk along the Wall between East and West shot on Super-8. Riki Kalbe’s BODENPROBEN (West German 1987) meticulously probes the grounds of Prinz Albrecht, the former site of the Gestapo headquarters and brings repressed history back to the surface in subjective fashion. In 1988, Tilda Swinton circumnavigated the Berlin Wall by bike for the film Cycling the Frame. In 2009, it was followed by THE INVISIBLE FRAME (Cynthia Beatt, Germany 2009), which takes the same route, but in a reunited Berlin. This cinematic bike tour connects memory, change and space, accompanied by music and Swinton’s reflections.
